As a community of learners, we recognise that Primary education should address academic, personal, social, cultural and athletic development and through the PYP Learner Profile we strive to be successful in all of these areas.

Take a look at our After School Activity pages and you will see evidence of a wide range of activities, from Choir to Rugby, Interior Design to Arabic Reading, all intended to enrich the school programme and provide opportunities to extend participation in school life beyond the classroom.

While we do depend upon our expert teaching and support staff to lead learning, we continue to appreciate the help we receive from our volunteers: PADIA, reading parents, class representatives and event planners. This feeling of community within the school representing more than 80 different nationalities has been recognised by the Council of International Schools (CIS) the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) and Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau (DSIB), organisations with whom we are proud to be associated.

Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills offers Primary School students a range of Co-Curricular Activities.

Clubs

In keeping with our philosophy of making our students ambassadors of the community, at DIA we encourage ideas that make a difference to our everyday lives.  We have student-led Clubs which have a mission defined by the student committee of the Club and all activities are conceived and executed by the students under the guidance of a member of staff.

ECO Club

Dubai International Academy School's Eco Club is a student led initiative that focuses on environmental education, conservation and sustainability. Students meet weekly as part of the Student Council and regularly participate in a number of projects that help raise environmental awareness by using meaningful, hands-on activities. Students work alongside the social club members to plan school wide events and activities. We are part of the UAE Eco School’s program and have worked hard to both gain and maintain the green flag award.

Eco-Committee

The aim of the Eco-Committee is to take responsibility towards the environment and encourage the students in understanding the importance of the effects of their actions upon the environment. The Eco-Committee works hard to improve the school community and increase environmental awareness through support of several student led campaigns and initiatives. The activities give the students the opportunity in understanding and implementing the school core values by making a difference in and outside the school community.

Objectives of Eco Club:-

  • To educate the students about their environment.
  • To create a clean and green consciousness among students through various innovative methods.
  • To involve the students in efforts to preserve the environment.
  • To motivate students how to live a healthy sustainable lifestyle.
  • To make a cleaner and greener school

Activities of Eco Club:-

  • To beautify green areas across the school.
  • Action based activities like a herbal garden, cleanliness drives both within and outside the school campus.
  • Celebrate and plan activities for Earth Day (April 22), World Environmental Day (June 5).
  • Teach the students to minimize the use of plastic bags, not to throw them in public places and to recycle
  • Promote ethos of conservation of water by minimizing the use of water.
  • Putting display boards and signs around the school regarding environment protection.
  • Creating strategies to reduce the use of energy during school hours.
  • Promoting cycling and walking to school to those who live close enough

PS Choir

Message from PS Choir Coordinator

The Primary School Choir at DIA began in 2014 and is offered to students from Years 4-6. Students go through an audition process to be part of this prominent group, also known as The DIAtones. The choir rehearses before school, so that those students who wish to participate in a sporting CCA can do so as well. The DIA choir performs a wide range of different pieces not only within the DIA community, but in the wider Dubai community as well.

Our performances have included the Dubai Literature Festival, The Middle east ChoirFest and annual tree lighting events at hotels in Dubai. The DIAtones have also had the privilege of performing the National Anthem at the opening of the Dubai Rugby 7s. Our most proud moment has been performing at The Global Economic Summit if front of His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai.

The DIAtones continue to thrive here at DIA and look forward to future performances!

Student Leadership

Students in the Primary School have several opportunities to develop leadership skills.  The Student Council and the House System offer multi-faceted roles and events for students to inculcate not just leadership qualities but also team work skills.

Student Council

The Student Council is made up of two groups – Social and Environmental.

The Social group raises awareness and funds for groups, charities and community members, less fortunate than ourselves. They are also invited to provide recommendations, feedback and student insight to the school leadership at key times during the school year.

The Environmental group looks at how we can continue to work on reducing our environmental footprint. They also raise environmental awareness and lead action within our school and wider community. The members of both groups are elected by their peers and they meet weekly.

Buddies

Each class within DIA Primary has a buddy class from a different year group. The classes share academic and social experiences and learn about building relationships within the school environment. Children across each ‘buddy class’ will be paired together to collaborate on activities and help and support each other. Classes generally meet for 30 minutes once a week.

Friendship Ambassadors

Year 4, 5 and 6 students are given an opportunity to offer their time as Friendship Ambassadors in the Primary School. The role includes creating a nurturing and friendly environment, including all students in play and games in all areas of our school. DIA has zero tolerance for bullying and promotes a safe, happy and inclusive environment where all students feel safe and accepted. Members are nominated by teaching staff and meet weekly.

Sports

DIA Students and Parents,

Participation in sport is an important element in maintaining the ‘well balanced’ PYP Learner Profile and supports our commitment to a healthy lifestyle. For those children looking to develop their competitive edge, school sports teams provide the opportunity to train on a regular basis and compete against other Dubai schools at a very high level and in a range of sports.

We compete in all the major sports in Dubai through the DASSA league. Over 75% of primary students represent the school at their chosen sport so it is vital that we offer such a wide range of activities. We are fortunate to have a strong team of skilled and passionate coaches committed to making DIA one of the most successful Dubai schools in sports such as football, swimming, athletics, netball, basketball and cricket. Most recently we took part in the U11 World School Games where we were placed 7th overall out of 23 schools from all over the world. Some outstanding performances in athletics meant we finished 5th overall and in the swimming we placed 6th overall. We recently won the DASSA football championships this year in the U10 and U11 boys categories. DIA also finished top spot in the U9 DASSA cricket championships last year.

The primary physical education department are so proud at what we have achieved as a school so far in sport and we are super excited about where we can aim to be in the future.

Message from Head of Sports (Primary School)

Dear DIA Students and Parents,

Participation in sport is an important element in maintaining the ‘well balanced’ PYP Learner Profile and supports our commitment to healthy lifestyles. For those children looking to develop their competitive edge, school squads provide the opportunity to train on a regular basis and compete with teams from other schools.

We compete in all the major sports leagues in Dubai. We are pivotal in the Innoventures league and take a leading role in the The Dubai Schools Leagues. Over 75% of our children at some point represent the school at their chosen sport so it is vital that we offer such a wide range of activities. We are fortunate to have a team of 18 skilled and passionate coaches committed to making DIA a strong sporting school. In recent years, our young Athletics squad has been developing rapidly, DIA was crowned Dubai Schools Soccer champions and we finished 4th in the Dubai Swimming championships.

Message from Director of Sports

Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to welcome all of you at the start of the 2018-2019 Academic Year!

Last season we celebrated many outstanding national and international sporting achievements in football, basketball, swimming, cricket, volleyball and track and field.

The milestone achievement of being the 3rd Best Sports School in UAE by UAE Teen Sports & Fitness Awards still resonates. This outstanding accomplishment certainly puts DIA on the map as one of the best sports schools in the country which everyone should be proud of.

While we have had many successes in the past, I am confident we will achieve even better results in all of our programs this academic year.

As your child becomes involved in the sports program at DIA, they will experience some of the most rewarding moments in their life. We always strive to have our athletes reach their full potential in all areas of the sports experience academically, socially, and through the competitions.

Student-athletes are striving to succeed in two demanding areas simultaneously- academics and sports. They have the responsibility of developing and working toward an educational goal as well as training in their favourite sports. We encourage and assist student-athletes in maintaining academic eligibility so they can continue to participate in sports.

Success does not occur overnight; it is an ongoing process. Commitment is a very important part of the student’s development in sports. They must understand that coming on the day of the event or game is not sufficient. Athletes need to understand that practice along with all the other obligations is necessary in order to achieve success.

Parent involvement, whether it be as a supportive fun, housing visiting athletes, or volunteering at concessions, all are welcome to help in creating the community you wish to be a part of. At DIA volunteering is essential to the success of the programme and development of school spirit. We welcome all students and families to participate in sports at DIA. Involvement in sports will help strengthen relationships across the many families and cultural groups which exist in our school.

Please take some time to thoughtfully consider your participation in sports for the 2017-2018 year. Detailed lists of the secondary try out, school events and fixtures will be displayed on our school webpage.

At Dubai International Academy we have talented young athletes who participate in a wide array of sports teams and events.  Our goal is to help develop student talent and give every individual the opportunity for success.

Also, I would like to invite everyone to support our athletes throughout the seasons of sports. We will be delighted to see you out there cheering on our teams.

I am looking forward to another successful sporting year ahead.

GO WOLVES!

Sincerely

Mihail G. Kouzev
